Jefferson City Smoke-free Ordinance
Effective January 31, 2011

Voters supported a smoke-free Jefferson City. Advocates Diane Ooton and Felicia Poetgen campaigned for the cause.
Following a petition campaign of more than 1200 voters, the Jefferson City Council unanimously placed a measure on the November 2 ballot to make indoor worksites and public places smoke-free.
On January 31, Jefferson City joined 30 other capital cities across the country in having smoke-free restaurants, bars, and other indoor workplaces. An overwhelming majority of Jefferson City voters that went to the polls last November approved the citizen-led initiative that protects workers, patrons, and visitors from the serious health harms of secondhand smoke exposure.
Congratulations to all those who support a healthier environment for our community!
Because everyone deserves to breathe clean air.
